Richard Gere wants you to boycott the Beijing Olympics...not gerbils. Gere a devout Buddhist and the chairman of the International Campaign for Tibet, is pissed at China for their human rights crimes.
Dick told Reuters that boycotting the 2008 Olympic games could help encourage China to end their abuses in Tibet and allow the region to "decide its future."
"A general boycott to me certainly has value; it's probably impractical, but emotionally absolutely makes sense," Gere, 58, said. "Why should the world reward people who are obviously so bad to their own people, so bad to other people."
To learn more about the story of China and Tibet watch Seven Years in Tibet starring Brad Pitt. It is really educational.

Thanks Mom!
what a dumbass, the Chinese government would care about an Olympic boycott as much as Bush cares about being called stupid by 4th rate journalists. besides.. the Olympics are meant to transend government and politics or whatever. ie Berlin 1936.
then there's the US, our government and citizens commit plenty of crimes that violate human rights.. yet Gere won't stop making movies for us!
Well, Gere is doing what he thinks is right! He has the rights to make movies and develop his spirituality as much as you and me comments
It seems that you don't agree with him.
