Tobe Hooper Takes on Al Qaeda

Well, fans disappointed with Mortuary will have a new Tobe Hooper vehicle to look forward to. Obsessed with Film reports that Hooper’s next entry will be Training Ground, a controversial Al Qaeda action thriller produced for Midsummer Films in London. Andy Briggs (SCREAMING NIGHT) wrote the screenplay and production is set to begin shooting this fall.

Training Ground follows eight backpackers traveling along Silk Road in a foreign country when they lose their transportation as an avalanche hits. Stumbling into a nearby town, they find an Al Qaeda training camp only to discover plans to destroy several US cities. What’s more, the backpackers are unaware that Los Angeles has already been dealt a hearty bomb attack. When the backpackers flee with the plans, they are chased by Al Qaeda members deadest on getting back the plans.

Well, this sounds completely different than anything Hooper has done before. Let’s hope he sticks to his horror roots somewhat and tosses in a decapitation here and a slashing there. If he does this right, it will be a mighty controversial film.
