Get Smart Wins Box Office Battle With The Love Guru

Steve Carell'sGet Smart and Mike Myers The Love Guru may be this summer's only heavyweight match up at the box office. Studio's are not going to risk having their biggest films go head-to-head in theaters, even though it would be interesting to see what people would do, if they had to choose between Batman and Iron Man.

Get Smart took the comedy heavyweight belt away from Myers earning an estimated $39.2 million, while The Love Guru only pulled in a disappointing 14 million, $6 million under it's estimated goal of $20 million.

Get Smart is a remake of the classic TV show, and stars The Office's Steve Carell, The Rock (aka Dwayne Johnson) and Anne Hathaway. The Love Guru stars Mike Myers in his first live appearance since The Cat in the Hat and Justin Timberlake.

Critics hated both films, but seemed to prefer Get Smart to the Guru. Not only did Myer's film lose the number one spot to Smart, it was also beaten by Kung Fu Panda (#2) and The Incredible Hulk (#3) coming in 4th this weekend.

The Love Guru may be this summer's only flop, even The Happening almost earned it's money back.
