Perez Hilton Shut Down
Perez Hilton's popular Blog was shut down after his hosting service received complaints about him posting copyrighted photos. Perez is known for posting pictures of celebrities with the same three things written on them, slut, whore and cum dripping out of mouths of the males. That's basically it.
After being kicked off the web Tuessday he returned Wednseday with a new provider. Mario Lavanderia (his real name) is facing several lawsuits by paparazzi who claim he uses their stuff without permission. Hilton says he refuses to pay license fees claiming because he is a "journalist" he has the right to use the images for free.
Hilton has been sued before by photo agency X17 Inc. but a federal judge denied their motion, and now another lawsuit is being brought against him on the behalf of several other agencies and Universal Studios.
"Perezhilton.com stands by its commitment to protect the freedom of people to transform content on the internet for the purpose of commentary and satire and unquestionably believes that it comports with the fair use exception."
If you ask me this is a losing battle for the photo agencies, once a photo hits the Internet it is on 100 other websites, blogs and message boards in minutes. Also while they're battling Perez Hilton fifty more Hilton type websites are popping up. They should collect their money for first use of the pictures and then after that it's fair game, actually they really have no other choice in the matter when comes to the Internet.

well, Perez Hilton did have some notoriety. But yeah, who cares, when a suit comes out, that's a different story.
Very interesting. I always thought that the future copyright is like a history, but no copyright is the future. If Perez wins just going to prove to me that copyright is slowly being strip away its power gradually.

Hire better people before you release anything. Yes, it is fair game once you made a gazillion on a dumb photo of some red-carpet rat's wedding pictures and such. You cant sell the same item 100 times.
Most of these stories are so insignificant anyway. Does not solve any REAL isues facing the world today..., just distractions from the main news that should be reported and is not.
i agree abt the last paragraph abt the photo agencies fighting a losing battle.They shld charge 1st use (so at least they get some dosh) then when it all spills out into the WWW it's a free for all......

Obviously you aren't a photographer who makes their living selling their photos. In journalism it's called plagiarism if someone steals your work. That's essentially what he is doing.
There is a difference between photography and snapping 4,000 pictures of Brintey Spears leaving a night club in hopes to get another vergina shot. Also studios don't have the right to bitch, they love the billions of dollars in free advertising they get from websites and Blogs but now want to bitch about Perez using a picture from one of their movies? It's just like the music industry and file sharring, it's not about "stealing" it's laziness on their part not to catch up to the resy of the world.
Paparazzi pics are NOT photography. Don't insult real photographers by suggesting that capturing images for Us magazine is making your living the same way they do.
I think it brings up an important point for us others who use celebrity pictures. I put them in my blog but I make sure I credit my source. I haven't had problems as of yet (please don't cause me any) but I wish that you could do that legally without being punished. Maybe all Perez needs to do is credit his source??

Sources on the Internet are impossible! Crediting the website you got it from is really not the source, this is about the peole who are taking the pictures.
