American Idol Day 1: Bikini Girl (Video)

First let me just say how exciting it is to have American Idol back! Now let me tell you that the first rounds of AI are always the least exciting; because this is when the show is more VH1 type shlock, than the great, over-the-top, Hollywood singing competition we have all grown to love. Basically the forgettable part, where thousands of idiots compete to be the next William Hung.

The first new episode was no different parading more goofballs in front of the camera than actual talented people, but the one who stands out the most was Bikini Girl. The thing is Katrina Darrell, who showed up in nothing but a two-piece bathing suit, actually backed her gimmick up, by earning a golden ticket to the next round. New judge Kara DioGuardi was the only one who saw past her good looks and didn't think she deserved a trip to Hollywood, but she was quickly shot down by both Randy and Simon. What was Paula's position? Who knows, because as usual she was useless during the entire segment, only getting involved when the audition turned into a cat-fight between Kara and Katrina. Kara got the last jab in when she told Bikini Girl to "come back naked" as she exited the room.

The mandatory tearjerker of the night was 23-year-old blind kid named Scott MacIntyre, and other highlights included when Cowell told some Suicidal Tendencies reject "You're coming over as a drama queen," forcing him to cry.

Who were the talented people of the night? Who cares, we will get to see them in the next round, right now its all about the Bikini Girl and other forgettable novelty acts. Watch Bikini Girl's audition below.
