Madonna Did Not Get Her Baby... Yet!

A judge in Malawi told Madonna she could not adopt 4-year-old Chifundo "Mercy" James because she had not lived in the southern African nation for at least 18-24 months according to the AP.

Judge Esme Chombo said she ruled differently than Madonna's previous case to adopt David because of child trafficking.

"Anyone could come to Malawi and quickly arrange for an adoption that might have grave consequences on the very children that the law seeks to protect," Chombo said.

Women and Child Welfare Development Minister Anna Kachikho said they would be happy for another celebrity to take one more orphan off their hands, because it would be "one less mout to feed." Malawi's government estimates they have close to 2 million orphans in the country.

Madge's lawyer said she would appeal to the country's Supreme Court.
