Slumdog Millionaire Dad Arrested

Indian police responded to the News of the World article claiming that the father of Rubina Ali tried to sell her to a sheikh and are desperately searching for an alleged video recording of their meetings. After Rubina's mother heard of the allegations not only did she get into a catfight, but she also informed the cops who responded by arresting Rafiq Qureshi, and interrogating him for hours.

Rubina Ali -- the young star of the Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire -- is now part of what seems to be a struggle to cash in on her fame. Her mother Khurshida claims that her ex and his new wife are money grubbing whores and that her oldest daughter told her of their plot to sell the child, but she did not believe they would actually go through with it.

The Sun was told by police official Prakash Salunke, "Khursida was very upset by the media reports and she came to lodge a complaint. When we questioned Rubina she said she does not want to go anywhere and wants to live with her father. Similarly, Rafiq Qureshi also said he has no intentions of selling her."

Rafiq claims that he did indeed meet with the sheikh, who showered him with lavish gifts, but refused his offer to leave Rubina behind after he was told that by an assistant that the man wanted to raise the child himself.

Rafiq told police, "I politely said Rubina is happy with me and wanted to leave. After this they made an offer of money in English which I did not understand. Then they requested me to leave her there overnight and take her in the morning. I refused and took Rubina away with me."
