Sequel News

Variety is reporting that Universal has officially signed Vin Diesel and Paul Walker for a fifth installment in the Fast and the Furious franchise possibly titled Fast Five. Screenwriter Chris Morgan and director Justin Lin are returning to the series which finds the stars on the run from the law. This franchise has had a pretty solid run, so I'm not surprised by this. Glad to see Vin Diesel has figured out this is where we want to see him.

Over at Disney, the Amy Adams/Patrick Dempsey vehicle Enchanted is gearing up for a second installment. The stars have yet to sign on, and there's no official word on the script, but The Proposal director Anne Fletcher is allegedly on-board to helm the sequel. As someone who spent Christmas alone with a giant bottle of wine and this movie on TNT, I'm very happy about this news.

Get ready for a third filmed installment in the Da Vinci Code saga as Dan Brown's massive bestselling novel The Lost Symbol is being developed over at Columbia. Tom Hanks hasn't committed to this project yet, but everyone's sure he will. I just hope this one's better than the last two. The only thing that kept me awake during Angels and Demons was the collection of tiny Jim Beam bottles I poured into my Coke.

And finally, in "they just don't get it news," SuperHeroHype is reporting a rumor that DC might be planning a graphic novel sequel to Watchmen with possible film rights. Nothing has been officially announced. Did the movie even make its money back? Its a horrendous idea, but that's never stopped anyone before. You would think as a lifelong comic geek I would be used to seeing beloved properties raped, but...no.

UPDATE:
Over at Vulture there's a post claiming Disney is in talks with the creator of HBO's Flight of the Conchords to direct a new Muppet Movie. It's time for a Muppet comeback!
