Heath Ledger

And the Oscar Goes to...

Well once again this year's Academy Award nominations are crap, Batman, The Punisher: War Zone, The Wrestler and Hamlet 2 were not nominated for Best Picture; instead The Curious Case of Benjamin BUTTman (Read our review), Milk (Read our review), Frost/Nixon, The Reader, and Slumdog Millionaire were.

The Dark Knight was nominated for eight Oscars including the obvious stuff like Visual Effects, AND YES Heath Ledger got his Best Supporting Role nod, AND YES he died yada-yada-yada! The only person I'm pulling for to win is the mutant known as Mickey Rourke to win Best Actor for The Wrestler. And I look forward to see if Hollywood still suffers from homophobia by ignoring Milk and Sean Penn who was also nominated for Best Actor.

The most nominations went to Benjamin Button with 13 and second was Slumdog with ten. Jesus I feel like I could have written this article six months ago. (yawn)

So hurry, this is your last chance to rush out and see all the nominated films, so you can bore your family, friends and co-workers with regurgitated opinions you read from assholes like me on the interweb.

"Isn't Philip Seymour Hoffman grand!"

Dark Night Oscar Watch part 55

Warner Bros really wants that Oscar for The Dark Knight and they are not going to stop until they get it. I also know a few of the execs over there are secretly high-fiving each other over Heath Ledger's death, because it really helps their case.

The WB plans to re-release The Dark Knight in January, the height of Academy voting season, as a "reminder for people." You think the fact that it is the second-highest-grossing movie ever would be enough, but studios like their little statues. And why not it is the one time a year where people in the industry, get to celebrate their few success stories, and forget about their many more misses. It is kind of like Baseball, every home run negates the 8 prior strikeouts. They want you to remember The Dark Knight, but forget every One Missed Call and Speed Racer.

Our Dark Night Oscar Watch columns may sound like we are a bit bitter about the movie winning an Oscar, but that couldn't be the furthest thing from the truth. I would be one of the first to applaud the Academy for finally acknowledging genre films, instead of tired crap such as Crash. I really hope Batman is the superhero to pull it off, but its just too tempting not to play devil's advocate with it, while pissing people off over Ledger. Yes, I'm a bitter, mean spirited drunk, what can I say?  read more »

Mary-Kate Olsen is Not Talking to Feds About Heath Ledger

The feds want to know how Heath Ledger got the drugs that caused his death and Mary-Kate Olsen is not talking. Olsen was the first person called when Ledger's body was discovered, but she refuses to talk about it unless she is granted immunity from prosecution.

The NY Post reports: "The actress' lawyer has repeatedly rebuffed attempts by the feds to question Olsen. Frustrated federal officials could obtain a grand-jury subpoena to compel the funky 'Full House' actress to tell them whatever she knows about the 'Dark Knight' star's behavior, his possible drug use and the events of that fateful morning, according to sources."

The little troll is smart, I get nervous just typing the letters F-B-I, why the hell would anyone talk to them? They are watching us through our TVs anyway. They know everything that is going on.

She should also make a few other demands, like a free tour of their confiscated drug facilities, a lifetime supply of Starbucks and the return of Veronica Mars to TV. Mars was supposed to join the FBI academy so I am sure the Feds have an invested interest.

Rumer Willis Should Have Played the Joker NOT Heath Ledger

She is only 19-years-old and her boobs are already sagging, but that shouldn't have stopped Dark Knight producers from casting Rumer Willis as the Joker NOT, Heath Ledger. Like Mickey Rourke was born to play Marv in Sin City and Captain Jean-Luc Picard was born to play Professor Charles Xavier, Willis was born with a face like the joker. It should have been a no brainer, and she is still alive so she could have shown up to collect her Oscar in person. Can Ledger claim that?

Nope!

What are the chances if you were the daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis, you would come out looking like your father. Maybe God was pissed off because they canceled Moonlighting that year. Actually it was the next year but God can see the future.

If they need anyone to do flashback scenes in the third Batman film I am sure Willis will be willing, but they better hurry up and sign her now, because she is a rising star.

Let the Heath Ledger Oscar Buzz Begin! His Dark Knight Co-Stars Talk

Like I said in my previous Heath Ledger article, they should change the The Dark Knight's tagline from; Why So Serious? to Can a Dead Man Win an Oscar?

To keep up with our Heath Ledger Oscar watch here are some quotes from his co-stars in the film:

Christian Bale: "When we were in Chicago filming, watching Heath creating his own unique take on the Joker was one of the most amazing things I've ever witnessed as an actor. ... We became so close making this film. I truly feel I've lost both a friend and great acting partner. He absolutely deserves an [Oscar] nomination for that.''

Gary Oldman: "I think Heath's going to win the Oscar, posthumously. After we did our first scene together, I called a friend and said, 'This is one of those actors you dream of working with. He's genius in this role.'''  read more »

They Should Replace The Dark Knight With Heath Ledger's Oscar Reel

The Associated Press is reporting that a farewell message that reads "In memory of our friends Heath Ledger & Conway Wickliffe," will appear at the end credits of The Dark Knight in theaters July 18. If this is what is making the top of entertainment news, then I say they should can the actual movie, and just replace it with Heath's Oscar reel instead.

I am sure thousands of internet "critics" already have their reviews written for the movie, and no they have not see it yet. Who will have the balls to say Heath Ledger sucked? Trust me tons of people are waiting to be the first. Will Harry Knowles of Ain't He Fat News declare that Ledger deserves an Oscar? He probably already has, while reviewing the script and not the film.

July 18th will have the Blogsphere buzzing, message boards will be lit up, and I am sure Batman and friends will break box office records, but will anyone take the time to enjoy it for what it was meant to be; the ultimate popcorn flick?

I doubt it.

This will be the most heavily debated film of the year and in the middle of the debate is some dead guy, who happened to play one of the most notorious villains of our time.

The question is not if The Dark Knight is going to be a good film or not, but if Ledger can be the first to pull off a decent Joker onscreen? Can a dead guy win an Oscar?

And who plays Batman again? I forgot his name.

It will be almost impossible not to get wrapped up in the drama, so they may as well do as I said; Just show us clips of Heath Ledger's career set to some sad music, then let us all enjoy the film on DVD after the dust settles. July 18th is going to be more about Ledger than Bat-who?  read more »

Will Heath Ledger be a Good Joker on July 18th?

Robin to Join Batman in Third Film?

I was always looking forward to this summers The Dark Knight, but the morbid, evil side of me really can't wait for the Heath Ledger Oscar debate . Oh you know it is going to happen and I will be very disappointed if it does not. They should change the movies tagline to: Can a Dead Man Win an Oscar?

Now more controversy is surrounding the Bat-Franchise, CinemaBlend.com is reporting that they want to introduce Robin in the third film. Because of Heath Ledger's unfortunate death they have scrapped plans for the Joker to make a return. They supposedly plan to follow the stories from the graphic novels The Long Halloween and Dark Victory.

Cinema Blend says: "'The Long Halloween' seems to deal with a lot of the plot elements we’ll see in The Dark Knight. According to Wikipedia, it involves the Joker, and the creation of Two-Face. More importantly, it involves the evolution of the gang of criminals Batman fights into full fledged supervillains. 'Dark Victory' is a sequel to 'The Long Halloween', in the same way Batman 3 will likely be a direct sequel to The Dark Knight. 'Dark Victory' continues the story of 'The Long Halloween' and seems primarily focused on Two-Face, while introducing Batman’s sidekick Robin."

Heh did they really "source" Wikipedia? So does this mean that Robin will be in the third Batman film? I guess only time will tell, but I hope they remember that Robin is only fun when he is getting killed.
