Star Trek Can't Beat Wolverine
Star Trek may have been number one this weekend and broke some kind of record set by Twister in 1996, but it did not out gross Wolverine's opening numbers. Trek opened to $72.5 million to the X-Men's spinoff's $85. However, it is still an impressive number for J.J. Abrams' reboot.
Star Trek -- Plot: The film opens with the Federation starship USS Kelvin investigating a "lightning storm" in space. It turns out to be a black hole, and the Narada, a Romulan mining vessel, emerges from it and attacks. The Kelvin's captain, Richard Robau (Faran Tahir) is captured and killed by the Romulan captain Nero (Eric Bana). First officer George Kirk (Chris Hemsworth) takes command and sacrifices himself and the Kelvin by ramming it into the Romulan ship in order to allow the rest of the crew to escape. During the escape, George's wife Winona (Jennifer Morrison) gives birth to a son: James Tiberius Kirk. Read more... (Plot from IMDB.com. Numbers estimated by BoxOfficeMojo.com)

Star Trek: The Bold Genesis Of Mythology
[Editor's Note: This summer we will be featuring two reviews for some of the movies. Here is the second for Star Trek]
“I don't believe in the no-win scenario.”
-- Admiral James T. Kirk from Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan
“You're a great one for logic. I'm a great one for rushing in where angels fear to tread. We are both extremists. Reality has brought us somewhere in-between.”
-- Captain James T. Kirk from Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
“You've always had a hard time finding your place in this world, haven't you? Never knowing your true worth. You can settle for less in ordinary life, or do you feel like you were meant for something better? Something special.”
-- Captain Christopher Pike from Star Trek (2009)

The explosive birth of James T. Kirk during the film’s cataclysmic opening ushers in the J.J. Abrams bold vision of Star Trek’s origins.. It is a birth that is very appropriate for the iconic Kirk. His father, George Kirk (Chris Hemsworth), has taken command of the USS Kelvin, after the ship’s captain has been killed onboard a Romulan vessel, by Nero (Eric Bana). The ship is under siege by the Romulan ship. It is a chaotic, wonderfully staged set piece as ship debris and explosions fill out the galactic canvas. During all of this madness, Winona Kirk (Jennifer Morrison) is in labor and is being evacuated from the doomed vessel. Her husband communicates with her from the bridge. The older Kirk is not going to survive, but he is going to make sure his wife and soon to be born son will survive. As luck would have it, James T. Kirk is born as all this is going on. His father lives long enough to name him. His father was captain for twelve minutes, but he managed to save 800 lives. His heroism becomes part of Starfleet lore. It is a wonderful moment in a film filled with many wonderful moments. The film is respectful to the source material, but never reverential. Young Kirk’s entrance is fitting. He is born during incredible circumstances. His birth reminds me of King Arthur’s birth in Excalibur, Benjamin Button’s birth in The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button and Tarzan’s birth in Greystoke: The Legend Of Tarzan Of The Apes. James Tiberius Kirk was born in the darkness of space-- it is where he was always meant to be. read more »
Star Trek Movie Review (2009)
In the age of the reboot, where Batman, Bond, Hulk, and even Knight Rider get creative implants to help wonderbra these saggy franchises, it was only a matter of time before the 40+ year-old Star Trek got the kick to the junk it needed. Either pulling the plug on some of its seemingly endless array of mediocre spin-off series (which I’ve never seen because I’ve never been a fan) or actually making a good, if not great movie that doesn’t feel like bloated episode. Easier said than done if the previous X Star Trek movies are any indication
Like the Bond films, I’ve always found myself watching the Star Trek movies at least once, despite not knowing or caring about the show or the arcane knowledge Trekkies can spew. But like most of you, I’ve always thought of the Star Trek movies as stupid...and not in a good way.
Out of the previous 10 films, only 3 are actually good. The consensus- of which I agree with since there really isn’t much of an alternative- being that Wrath of Kahn, First Contact, and Undiscovered Country are the only movies that don’t embarrass the franchise. I know there’s the ridiculous but fun one with whales...but it’s fucking WHALES!!!
Since the last Star Trek movies where the ghastly Insurrection and the anticlimactic Nemesis, I, as I’m sure many of you, wouldn’t bat a curved Vulcan eyelash if there were nary a Trek movie to be seen again. Instead of making yet another shitty movie along with the middling series...let the franchise Die Short and Degenerate read more »
Star Trek (2009) Trailer
J.J. Abrams' new vision of Star Trek hits theaters on May 8, 2009.

"Mission: Impossible III director and Alias creator J.J. Abrams resurrects the classic science fiction franchise created by Gene Roddenberry with this feature film that embraces the rich history of the influential television and film series while also exploring some uncharted territory. Heroes star Zachary Quinto assumes the role of the Federation Starfleet lieutenant and Vulcan made famous in the original series by Leonard Nimoy (who also appears in an older incarnation of his original role), Spock, with Anton Yelchin stepping into the role of USS Enterprise navigator Pavel Chekov, Zoe Saldana assuming the role of communications officer Uhura, Simon Pegg keeping the ship in top shape as chief engineer Montgomery Scott (aka "Scotty"), and Eric Bana tormenting the benevolent space explorers as the villainous Nero. Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle co-star John Cho also boards the Enterprise as Hikaru Sulu, with Chris Pine and Karl Urban assuming the legendary roles of Captain Kirk and Leonard "Bones" McCoy, respectively."

William Shatner and George Takei Cat Fight (Video)
I'm a William Shatner fan. I am, I love the guy. He hosted that Full Moon Fright Night on the Sci-Fi channel and he was friggen hilarious on The Fresh Prince, but he is a notorious asshole, who has been rumored to treat his Star Trek co-stars like dirt.
I'm also a George Takei fan. He was hilarious when he co-hosted the Howard Stern Show, he is gay and he is asian. Takei is also known for being a very nice man. So it is not a surprise he handled Shatner's latest hissy fit with such class.
The Associated Press reports that Shatner "lashed out at Takei for not inviting him to his wedding last month" via a video posted on his website (watch below). The Enterprise Captain claims Sulu "harbors a grudge against him."
"The whole thing makes me feel badly," Shatner said in the video. "Poor man. There is such a sickness there. It's so patently obvious that there is a psychosis there. I don't know what his original thing about me was. I have no idea."
Like I said Takei probably has a few reasons to harbor a grudge, but unlike Shatner he doesn't, and claims he did indeed invite him to his wedding.
A rep for Takei confirmed the invite, and Takei said in a statement: "It is unfortunate that Bill was unable to join us for our wedding as he indeed was invited to attend It is our hope that at this point he joins us in voting no on Proposition 8, which seeks to eliminate the fundamental right for same-sex couples to marry in California."
All the old Star Trek actors just have sand in their vaginas because they have been replaced in the new, Star Trek film with younger actors. read more »
Sulu (aka George Takei) Gets Married
Star Trek took place in the far-off future, but did the Starfleet allow gay marriage? Now that I think about it, were there ever any homosexuals on the show? Probably not, but that doesn't matter because in the real world Sulu aka George Takei married his long time lover, Brad Altman on Sunday, confirms People.
"All I can remember is what the priest said," Takei told People after the ceremony. "That this moment will never happen again. It's something to savor."
The couple got hitched in front of 200 of their friends in a Buddhist ceremony in downtown Los Angeles. Other Star Trek co-stars who attended were; Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig. William Shatner was probably not invited or would have not attended, since he thinks he is better than the rest of the show's cast.
I am glad Sulu was able to find gay-sexual love and get married. Not only is it hard to be a gay celebrity, it is probably harder to be a Japanese, gay celebrity who appeared on Star Trek. What appearing on Star Trek has to do with it I have no idea. They should paint the Enterprise pink in celebration.
New Star Trek Posters Featuring McCoy, Scotty, Sulu & Chekov
Seriously are character posters for the new Star Trek movie really that exciting? They're just pictures of younger looking people in the Star Trek uniforms, but I still bet every asperger's cock is hard over these posters.
Below are all four new posters (in one) via Trekmovie.com. However the better picture is Sylar from Heroes dressed up as Spock (after the jump). This movie is either going to be great for all the wrong reasons or just flat out awful. Come on seriously, it stars Winona Ryder and no William Shatner, it has to suck. read more »

George Takei of Star Trek to Marry Gay Lover
Sucks that George Takei had to wait until he was 71 to marry longtime boyfriend Brad Altman, that just seems like such an old age to have to get married at. He could die any minute and then Altman would inherit all his Star Trek money, but Takei wouldn't mind because he loves him.
Mr Sulu, who has been dating his boyfriend for 21-years, wrote on his website that the couple is trying to decide on where to get married calling it a, "delicious dilemma," he added We can have the dignity, as well as all the responsibilities, of marriage. We embrace it all heartily."
Besides his career on Star Trek Takei has appeared in hundreds of TV shows, had a hilarious "guest announcer" spot on the Howard Stern Show and recently has been on the popular TV show Heroes.
Takei added about his relationship: "We've worked in partnership; he manages the business side of my career and I do the performing. We've travelled the world together from Europe to Asia to Australia. We've shared the good times as well as struggled through the bad. He helped me care for my ailing mother who lived with us for the last years of her life. He is my love and I can't imagine life without him."
Takei is lucky to have found someone who loves him so deeply because everyone knows gay people rarely like other asian men.
